When I worked at Sainsburys in town circa 1985/1986 the deputy manager was a black bloke (Rob Horsefall I think his name was) The highest ranking black person in the company nationally at the time - he was as sound as fuck - didn't suffer fools and commanded respect - I got on really well with him so much he lent me & a work pal his mini car to go to visit some other pals at Durham Uni. We picked it up after it had been valeted. The fact he was the highest ranking black person in the company then insinuated racism at play. But this country has been a good place for black people to live & work for a long long time IMHO. It's one thing to be given an opportunity, the hard thing is taking it. Some people (both black & white) do, others don't then bleat about it & some others can't, but recognise that's their own failing & don't whine about how unfair it is... Just saying. I do wonder though, how much of the talk of "black people will never get a chance" is a self fulfilling prophecy. The more you tell somebody that they have no chance, the more likely they are to believe it, and the less resilient they're likely to be.

Perhaps if our officers had guns and used them with so much freedom as the US cops we wouldn't have the total lack of respect for our officers that we see. I'd happily back the arming of all on the beat Bobbies.

I think half the problem is that 25 years ago, officers were picked as mainly menacing looking men, who you'd think twice about getting on the wrong side of.
Nowadays, the WOKE civil service seems more interested in picking officers to meet equality and diversity targets, as they drive around in rainbow coloured cars, kneeling at BLM protestors.
They no longer seem to want to uphold the law and stop crime, but seem more like an after care service.
We had a spate of cashpoint robberies around my neck of the woods recently. There were 3 in total and every time, it took the police well over an hour to attend. Members of the public were posting videos of the whole thing on social media, including one done in broad daylight on a busy A road which connects two major towns, in the centre of a large village.
They actually stopped traffic for 15 minutes to use a digger to extract the cashpoint from a bank and load it, then drive off.
Police waited a good half an hour after they'd left the scene, before they felt safe enough to attend and record the crime. The criminals know this. The police no longer want to risk tackling criminals in the act.
Speak your mind on Facebook though and if Tarquin manages to find offence on behalf of others who weren't offended, then the 5-0 are kicking your back doors in. Easy targets, meet the targets.

Paramilitary social workers some now call them. I don't blame the Police, mind. Politics has compromised their priorities.

There's a big difference in what US cops and ours come up against in terms of criminals carrying weapons and tbh I don't see a great deal of respect for them either. One thing I would like to see is the courts backing the police more in terms of sentencing, I must be demoralising spending months on a case only to see a dangerous criminal given a suspended or short jail sentence . We keep hearing the prisons are full so hears a great idea, build another 1 or 2 we don't want violent criminals on the street.

Despite the msm suggesting that all cops in America are trigger happy, the truth is that hey have a very dangerous job, so much so that cops getting shot at in the US isn't newsworthy. If the cops carry guns here, the criminals are more likely to carry and use their own. I think the UK has it about right, apart from sentencing perhaps.

Black on black crime is out of control in the US. They can't even keep it out of the award ceremonies.

Strange incident that. When Chris Rock made the 'joke' Will Smith was laughing along.. then he presumably saw his wife's stony faced expression and thought he'd better do something if he doesnt want to be sleeping in the spare room that night. But then it was a half hearted slap across the face? If youre going to go all 'outraged husband' on him Will, you might aswell give him a full blown punch in the kisser at least.
Smith's wife once boycotted the Oscars in protest at the lack of diversity, so guess thats something the academy has gone out of its way to address ever since, over-compensating massively as all such things tend to do. So its now a showpiece for black multi millionaires to whine to each other about the hardships and injustices of being black, assaulting each other on stage and shouting " Keep my wife's name outa your fucking mouth!". Good wholesome family fun.
To be fair to Smith and Rock, it was the most interesting thing thats ever happened at the Oscars, though that isn't a very high bar.

I would have loved it had CR given him a slap back and it turned into a real scrap, that would have been the best Oscars ever. Hopefully next year Ricky Gervais will be host, that will be entertaining.

With the latter on stage we might have seen a bar room brawl scenario.
