Currently having an extension built and seriously considering putting a wood burner/wood burner and back boiler in the new build kitchen diner Already have a wood burner in living room and putting ufch throughout ground floor as part of the refurb/extension Even if the Ukraine nightmare ended tomorrow we'll still be feeling it for months if not years If extreme winds become the norm here, there's little chance of a fuel shortage over the next few years! Huge numbers of saplings have been planted in recent years (CO2 offsetting, etc). But until their roots become established, many of them will suffer in prolonged absences of rainfall. Gardeners may well water theirs....but industrial-scale plantings may not receive the care they need. There could be a great many lost this year.

It seems safe enough that world leaders and celebs all wander the streets w4nking Zalensky off on guided tours without the need for any security of bullet proof vests? Doris toured Liverpool in an anti stab flak vest, yet wanders around Keeeeeeve in a suit and tie.

They need switching off in heavy wind. When you consider the CO2 emissions in producing these massive structures from 250 tons of steel smelting, the Olympic swimming pool sized concrete foundations some need, the non recyclable fibre glass blades which end up in landfill after 10 years, the new turbines needed every 7 years, the 270 Litres of complex gear oil needing draining and replacing every 3 years and other failures, it's hard to see this being much more than a money making scam to extract tax money from you to the global elites. On most days, the majority around my way are barely turning, if at all. As for solar. When we need electricity at night, in the winter, to charge our toxic EV's, run lights, TV's, heating and cookers, I'm sure solar will be well useful. Great in the middle of the day in summer, when the UK barely uses electricity. I'd say it's more suited to countries where AC is the norm.

Maybe a device that can hold an electric charge safely until it's needed could be invented? I don't have the wherewithal to invent something like that, but if I did, I'd call it a "battery", its a great sounding combination of letters and when I say the word to a random person, they somehow immediately know its function.

Sorry, but that is the worst deluded bullshit I've ever seen on here, unless EVERY high power device in your house uses gas, not electric. You clearly have fuck all understanding of how much energy is created at 240V AD from a 22v DC array of panels and batteries. I off grid with a 2 x 100W array with 120aH 12V battery MPPT Victron controller and know exactly how much energy they produce. Wired in serial, the output voltage is normally around 44V. It barely covers A 38W 12V compressor fridge freezer for more than 3 days in mid summer. People have no idea just how quickly you burn batteries when converting 22V DC panels to 240AC to power things like kettles, oven, microwaves etc.

I have 2 x 2kW arrays - 20x the Wattage of your piddly 2x100W (on a camper van?)
Weekly house use is about 20kWH.
We have 3 batteries storing 12kWH total - our weekly household use is around 25kWH averaged across the full year (doesnt really vary *that* much to be honest, January went up to 150kWH for the month)
So - batteries, isolated from any new charge, would get us through about 3 full days (my quick 5 day estimate forgot that the batteries are typically getting recharged through the day) - so as I say, easily viable to provide the majority of power for a 24hr source. (I think we average somewhere between 40% and 80% self-powered at various times of the year typically).
No idea what question you're even asking or why I'm telling you this, its not exactly rocket science!

Hopefully you'll be able to read and comprehend it with a bit more help. Everyone I know with an EV or solar tries to justify wasting thousands on them, based on the savings the salesman lied to them about. In reality, the cost of solar installations on most homes will never be recovered in the lifespan of the panels. The same goes with replacing boilers for "more energy efficient" ones. Even at current rates my gas an electric are £80 combined a month, of which electric is currently £50ish. At £600 a year, the panels would be on their last legs by the time it paid for itself, even assuming I only used power during sunny daytimes, which I don't. Add on an expensive battery array and you get my drift. I have them on my campervan purely because where I off grid, there is no mains hook up. As a result, I know EXACTLY how much the produce and how much my devices consume, as I have no other source.

^oh you're definitely correct that not factoring in the cost of the install is only half the story.
Think ours would pay for themselves after about 10-12 years or so based on the original calculations (and I'd expect them to survive 15-25 years, but we'll have moved before then) - although with the increasing costs of energy, that cost neutrality is shortening - wouldn't be surprised if its down to 8 years now.
If a next government can do something about the standing charges I'd be even happier!
All this is besides the point though, and not very interesting. You seem to have side tracked a discussion to hide just because I stated that my batteries, fully charged, could get me through a night (actually multiple), which is an indisputable fact with my storage and utilisation 🤷♂️, with your assumption that that wasn't possible, based on you having some tiny panels on your camper van!
