Saw this story on the BBC today- www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-60214769Basically the main sponsor and a financial benefactor of Raith Rovers is lifelong fan and author Val McDermid. She has pulled the plug on her sponsorship and support of the club because they have just signed a player called David Goodwillie. Goodwillie was charged with rape in 2011 when a women who went back to a flat with him and another pro footballer after a boozy night out said she was raped by both as basically she was too pissed to consent to sex and although he was not taken to a criminal court due to lack of evidence, he was found guilty in a civil court in 2017 and ordered to pay the victim £100k damages. So Mcdermid has withdrawn her backing in protest. No problem with that. Its her decision and seems perfectly justifiable if thats how she feels about it. The skipper of Raith women's team has also quit the club for the same reason. Again, no issue with that at all. But then Nicola Sturgeon wades in. Her quotes , to me anyway, are a classic example of a politician saying what she thinks is the populist thing to say without actually engaging her brain first and considering what she is actually suggesting and what the implications of it are. Basically she fully supports the actions of McDermid and the women's skipper, admiring their principles, and adding - '"The fact they're in this position at all reminds us that our society still has a way to go to make zero tolerance of sexual violence a reality."
What she's actually saying there is that a rapist, even if they've served their sentence ( in this case a fine ) should not be employed again afterwards. He's a professional footballer.. thats his job.. so no employer ( football club ) should give him work. Which is basically saying he should be on the dole, being financed by the taxpayer all his working life. Presumably this isn't just for footballers.. this would apply to all rapists, even those not found guilty in a court of law,,, be they plumbers, accountants, whatever. She is against any employer giving them a job.. because if they do it shows- "our society still has a way to go to make zero tolerance of sexual violence a reality" Very populist thing to say obviously, but when youre in her position, a pretty stupid thing to say too.

I saw this story earlier and thought the same. Let's be honest here, if Goodwillie was a tradesman, Sturgeon would never have even mentioned it but because he's 'high profile' (ish) she went looking for a few extra votes. Don't get me wrong here , I have no time for rapists , murders etc and I think we let them out far too soon but if we are going to try and rehabilitate then having a job is a big part of that and whether your a footballer or a plumber shouldn't make any difference.

Reading that story I find it difficult to accept the rape verdict. Don’t know the full facts, but it’s seems very woolly. Although why two men would want to go with the same girl one after the other does make me question there general behaviour, that doesn’t make them guilty.
This and the greenwood case has made for good conversations in my house though. My two girls are both now young women and it’s allowed us to talk about the subject very easily.
Hope that greenwood is found guilty and they literally throw the book at him. A huge sentence might just make some of these entitled/weirdos think about their behaviour

This Goodwillie case sounds very similar in various ways to the Ched Evans case. Ive heard the recording of the Greenwood incident. Its nauseating. Dont think he has a leg to stand on and will be in prison soon enough hopefully.

So Raith have changed their mind and are now saddled with a player who they have just signed a contract with but who they now will never use. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-60244442Whats known in football circles as a Kong-diak-benza situation. Presumably the player will start claiming benefits now as the 1st minister has effectively introduced a new law off the top of her head that says he can't be employed again?

I'm not sure why she ruled out just wedging the doors open a few inches....fire doors excepted, of course. Unless it’s an ultra modern building, any fire doors will be utterly useless. Also if it’s supposed to be a fire door, doesn’t seem a good idea cutting a few inch off the bottom. No doubt in a couple of years time there’ll be a 900k bill to fit 2000 new doors in all schools cos some silly cunt cut 2 inch off the bottom of them all back in 2022

That is utterly bonkers , surely if its a classroom door bordering a corridor then potentially covid spores could enter the classroom via the corridor. Some of these politicians are just plain stupid.

It never sits easy with me and that’s why prosecutors don’t take case very often. No doubt that’s why greenwood’s girl recorded it all and good for her
